titleOfInvention Fluoran compound
abstract NEW MATERIAL:A fluoran compound of formula I wherein R is 5-12C alkyl and the ring A is a (halogen- or lower-alkyl-substituted) benzene or naphthalene ring. n EXAMPLE: A compound of formula I wherein R is a group of formula II and the ring A is a group of formula III. n USE: A color-forming dye which shows red coloration in color-forming recording material and has excellent color-forming properties and storage stability in texture. n PREPARATION: A benzoic acid derivative of formula IV (wherein R is as defined above) is reacted in sulfuric acid with a phenol or naphthol derivative of formula V (wherein the ring A is as defined above) or the derivative having a lower alkoxy group in place of the hydroxyl group of this compound, thus producing a compound of formula I. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio
