titleOfInvention | Back sealing method for pipeline peripheral joint welding |
abstract | PURPOSE: To reduce the quantity of argon gas used and to reduce its filling-up time by back-sealing a peripheral joint part of a new pipe by the argon gas by using rubber balloons, a diffusion nozzle, etc., to perform welding in changing over a part of a pipeline. n CONSTITUTION: In the case of changing over a defective part of the LNG vessel cargo pipeline, for instance, the defective part is cut and removed and the cut surface of a present pipe is subjected to edge preparation and then, the balloons 4 are inserted into the pipeline 1 on both sides of the cut place. The argon gas is sent from an argon gas cylinder 8 to the respective balloons 4 and 4 and it is confirmed that the pipeline 1 is blocked up and cut off. The new pipe 2 is lowered below and fitted and fixed thereon and then, the joined part is closed up tightly by an adhesive cellophane tape and an air vent is formed on the uppermost part. The argon gas for sealing is fed into the pipe 2 through the diffusion nozzle 14 from an argon gas cylinder 12 to expel air. After that, the peripheral joint 3 is subjected to TIG welding and a gas sealing state is continued to be maintained till passing X-ray inspection. After finishing the inspection, the balloons are deflated and taken out from a stop valve 6 to finish work. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio |
