titleOfInvention Preparation of polycarbonate
abstract PURPOSE: To provide a colorless, transparent polycarbonate having a high mol.wt. without poisonous phosgene by melt-polycondensing a dihydric phenol with bisphenyl carbonate in the presence of an electron-donating amine compound. n CONSTITUTION: A dihydric phenol [preferably a compound of formula I-IV (R 1 -R 4 are H, 1-8C alkyl or phenyl; X is halogen; n is 0-4; m is 1-4)] is melt- polycondensed with bisphenyl carbonate preferably at 130-280°C in the presence of a catalyst selected from electron-donating amine compounds (e.g. N,N- dimethyl-4-aminopyridine)] to provide the objective polycarbonate. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio
