abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a safe skin-whitening agent for external use, having excellent skin-whitening effect and anti-suntan effect and free from cosmetic or drug injury by compounding a galloylglucose compound to a base for external use. n CONSTITUTION: The objective skin-whitening agent for external use, mainly an external drug for skin such as face lotion, cream, milky lotion and pack having extremely excellent safety in addition to the remarkable skin-whitening and beautifying effect can be produced by compounding 0.001-15% (preferably 0.01-10%) of an active component consisting of the galloylglucose compound of formula I (R 1 to R 5 are H or G; G is group of formula II), preferably a substance extracted from BOTANPI (root of Paeonia moutan), SHAKUYAKU (root of Paeonia albiflora), RYOJITSU (seed of Trapa bispinosa), CHIYU (root of Sanguisorba officinalis), DAIOU (rhizome of Pheum palmatum), GOBAISHI (gall of Rhus chinensis) or MOSSHOKUSHI (gall of quercus infectoria), especially 1,2,3,4,6-pentagalloylglucose, particularly a substance extracted from callus of Paeonia moutan. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio
