abstract | PURPOSE: To recover purified di-tertiary butyl peroxide, by distilling a mixture of di-tertiary butyl peroxide and tertiary butyl alcohol, separating an azeotrope as a lighter distillate and extracting the azeotrope with water. n CONSTITUTION: A mixture of a minor amount of di-tertiary butyl peroxide (A) and a larger amount of tertiary butyl alcohol (B) is distilled to separate an (A)/(B) azeotrope containing both components in almost equimolar ratio. The azeotrope is extracted with water to separate a reffinate fraction containing (A) and an extract containing water, (A) and (B). (A) is recovered from the raffinate fraction and when the raffinate fraction contains a minor amount of (B), it is subjected to fractional distillation to separate a lighter distillate containing an (A)/(B) azeotrope and a heavier distillate containing mainly (A).
