titleOfInvention | Production of 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyltrimethylammonium chloride |
abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound used as an intermediate for synthesis of carnitine without by-production of a toxic gas by reacting 2,3- dihydroxypropyltrimethylammonium chloride with hydrogen chloride as an economic chlorination agent in a specified condition. n CONSTITUTION: Hydrogen chloride is acted on 2,3- dihydroxypropyltrimethylammonium chloride as the starting raw material in the presence of acetic acid in an amount of 0.1-3 time moles based on the above- mentioned raw material in an organic solvent such as toluene or tetrachloroethane at 50-150°C to obtain the objective compound. In addition, the starting raw material can be obtained by reacting 3-chloro-1,2-propanediol; (R)-3-chloro-1,2-propanediol with trimethylamine. In addition, the amount of hydrogen chloride used is enough to be about a stoichiometric amount based on 1mol. starting raw material and excessively introduced hydrogen chloride can be recycled by circulation thereof. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio |
