titleOfInvention Hybrid c/c composite for friction material and production thereof
abstract PURPOSE: To simply obtain a high density and high strength compact in a short time by combining two or more kinds of carbon fibers having different lengths when mesophase carbon is mixed with carbon fibers, molded and heat-treated to produce a compact. n CONSTITUTION: Two or more kinds of carbon fibers having different lengths are mixed with a filler for a matrix and mesophase carbon as a binder for a matrix, the mixture is agitated and a caking agent is further added to the mixture and kneaded. The resulting kneaded material is dried and slightly opened to obtain stock. This stock is put in a metal mold for hot pressing, pressed and heated. The binder is thermally decomposed, condensation polymn. is caused and a compact is obtd. This compact is modified by heating at a prescribed temp. in an inert gas. Since the short carbon fibers increase filling rate and the long carbon fibers contribute to dynamic characteristics, the mechanical strength of the compact is enhanced. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio
