titleOfInvention Production of p-hydrozybenzoic acid
abstract PURPOSE: To advantageously separate and purify the title high-purity compound by dissolving a reaction product of potassium phenolate, acidifying with a mineral acid, separating and removing insoluble impurities under heating, cooling and extracting a precipitated solid with a solvent. n CONSTITUTION: In separating the title compound useful as a raw material for polymer materials from a reaction product containing sodium salt of the title compound prepared by reacting potassium phenolate or a mixture containing the compound with carbon dioxide, a water-soluble part of the reaction product is dissolved in water, acidified with a mineral acid, heated to dissolve the objective compound and insoluble impurities are separated under heating. Then the prepared heated aqueous solution is cooled, a precipitated solid is separated, the objective compound is extracted and separated from the precipitated solid using a solvent to dissolve the objective compound but not potassium salt of the mineral acid to advantageously give the high-purity objective compound advantageously with efficient removal of the impurities in the reaction mixture without using an expensive subsidiary raw material and a complicated device. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio
