Stabilization of bismuth vanadate pigment against attack by hydrochloric acid |
abstract |
PURPOSE: To obtain a bismuth vanadate pigment that is stabilized against the attack by hydrochloric acid and gives a coating excellent in stability, by treating the bismuth vanadate pigment with a metal phosphate under specified conditions. n CONSTITUTION: (B) An orthophosphate consisting of calcium orthophosphate, magnesium orthophosphate, aluminum orthophosphate, zirconium orthophosphate and/or titanium orthophosphate or a mixture of these orthophosphates with zinc orthophosphate is treated with (A) an aqueous suspension of a bismuth vanadate pigment in the temp. range from 20 to 100°C and in the pH range from 2 to 8 with stirring and with the amount of the mixture being 2 to 20 wt.% based on the component (A), the orthophosphates are precipitated in situ from a suitable metal salt of a strong mineral acid and orthophosphoric acid (alkali metal salt), and the resulting product is isolated to obtain the intended pigment. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO |
