abstract NEW MATERIAL:A 2-Nitroimidazole derivative expressed by formula I (R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are H or acyl). n EXAMPLE: 1-[(2',3'-Diacetoxy-1'-acetoxymethyl)propoxy]methyl-2-nitroimidazole. n USE: Useful as a radio-sensitizer having an excellent radio-sensitizing effect with high safety and being extremely advantageous for radioactive treatment of cancer. n PREPARATION: A compound expressed by formula II (R 1 ', R 2 ' and R 3 ' are acyl which may be mutually same or different; R 4 is acyl) is subjected to a reaction with a compound expressed by formula III (X is H or trialkylsilyl) to afford the compound expressed by formula I (R 1 to R 3 are acyl group), which is further hydrolyzed to provide the compound expressed by formula I (R 1 to R 3 are H). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio
