titleOfInvention Carbonylation of allylic butenol and butenol ester
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain 3-penetenoic acids quantitatively, by carbonylating an allylic butenol and an allylic butenol ester in the presence of a rhodium catalyst and a low concentration of a promotor such as HI or HBr at a low temperature under a low pressure. n CONSTITUTION: In the carbonylation of an allylic compound selected from an allylic butenol and an allylic butenol ester (the ester moiety contains 1-10C), the allylic compound and carbon monoxide are subjected to carbonylation in the presence of a rhodium catalyst and a promotor selected from HBr and HI under such conditions that the concentration of the rhodium is about 0.005 - about 0.50 wt.% of the whole reaction mixture and the molar ratio of the promotor and the rhodium is about 1:1-10:1, thereby to give 3-pentenoic acid or its carboxylic anhydride derivative. The product is useful as intermediates for the synthesis of bifunctional monomers and adipic acid. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO
