abstract | PURPOSE: To maintain the title compound useful as a raw material for resins, drugs and agricultural chemicals in high quality for a long period of time without discoloration and causing fine powder by suppressing concentration of molecular oxygen in a vapor phase to a specific concentration and handling maleimides in the presence of a stabilizer at ≥ the melting point of the maleimides. n CONSTITUTION: Maleimides (e.g. N-methylmaleimide or ethylmaleimide) are handled under a condition of ≤10vol.% content of molecular oxygen of vapor phase part (especially vapor phase part is preferably substituted with an inert gas such as nitrogen, carbon dioxide or argon) in the presence of a stabilizer at ≤ the melting point of the maleimide, preferably in a temperature range 1-50°C, especially 5-20°C higher than the melting point. For example, 2,4- dimethyl-6-tert-butylphenol or triphenyl phosphate may be cited as the stabilizer and the amount of the stabilizer used is preferably 0.001-0.1wt.% based on the maleimides. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio |
