abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound in high purity and yield and simplified process without requiring post-synthetic process such as purification by adding sulfuric acid or phosphoric acid to a reaction system when iodine monochloride is reacted with 5-aminoisophthalic acid in water. n CONSTITUTION: When iodine monochloride is allowed to react with 5- aminoisophthalic acid in the presence of water, sulfuric acid or phosphoric acid is added to the reaction system and the reaction is carried out to provide 5-amino-2,4,6-triiodoisophthalic acid. According to the method, purification process is not required and production process is simplified and moreover, high yield and purity are attainable in water. 5-Amino-2,4,6-triiodoisophthalic acid is useful as a raw material for X-ray contrast medium having extremely low toxicity to vein. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio
