titleOfInvention Nonlinear optical material
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a nonlinear optical material having high transmittance, superior transparency and a very significant nonlinear optical effect by using benzalacetofuran having a specified structure. n CONSTITUTION: A nonlinear optical material made of benzalacetofuran represented by general formula I (where R is CH 2 , CH 3 S, Br, CN or NO 2 ) has a very significant nonlinear optical effect, very high transmittance to visible radiation having ≥ 400nm wavelength and superior transparency and can be utilized in various optical uses. The benzalcetofuran is produced by allowing 2-acetofuran to react with specified benzaldehyde such as 4-methylbenzaldehyde in the presence of a basic or acidic catalyst optionally in a proper solvent such as methanol, ethanol or other alcohol preferably at 0-50°C for 30 min-50 hr. Benzalacetofuran having high transmittance and superior transparency and usable as a nonlinear optical material can be obtd. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio
