titleOfInvention Production of cellular polymer microsphere
abstract PURPOSE: To readily obtain cellular polymer microspheres by dissolving a hydrogen bonding crystalline polymer in a solvent, extruding the resultant solution in the form of a thin film into a solvent compatible with the aforementioned solvent without dissolving the polymer and carrying out phase separation and crystallization of the above-mentioned polymer. n CONSTITUTION: A hydrogen bonding crystalline polymer (e.g. nylon 6) is dissolved in a solvent (e.g. dimethylformamide) and the resultant solution 5 is then extruded in the form of a thin film into a solvent 4 (e.g. ethylene glycol monomethyl ether) compatible with the aforementioned solvent without dissolving the above-mentioned polymer to permeate the aforementioned solvent into the thin film and carry out phase separation and crystallization of the polymer. Thereby, spherical cellular crystalline regions discontinuous in the face direction of the thin film are formed and the crystalline regions are separated with external force and granulated to afford cellular polymer microspheres, having a homogeneous pore diameter and porosity and suitable as coating composition, electrophotographic toners, etc. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio
