abstract The invention relates to a process for the preparation of p-aralkylbiphenyls by aralkylation of biphenyl, which process is characterised in that aralkylation is carried out on a catalyst of the montmorillonite type having a specific surface area of at least 110 m<2>/g. By means of this catalyst, high selectivity of the reaction with respect to the p isomers is achieved.
