titleOfInvention Method for treating glass fiber for reinforcing rubber, and preparation of reinforced rubber product
abstract PURPOSE:To prepare a glass fiber exhibiting a strong adhesion to a heat- resistant rubber such as hydrogenated nitrile rubber by treating a glass fiber with a specific water-sol. condensate and then with a soln. contg. a halogenated rubber and an isocyanate. CONSTITUTION:A glass fiber for reinforcing rubber is treated with a first liq. contg. a vinylpyridine-styrene-butadiene terpolymer latex, a rubber latex, and a water-sol. resorcinol-formaldehyde condensate, and then with a second liq. contg. a halogenated polymer and an isocyanate, thus giving the desired glass fiber. A pref. terpolymer latex comprises 10-20wt.% vinylpyridine, 10-20wt.% styrene, and 60-80wt.% butadiene, and is commercially available.
