titleOfInvention Copolymer latex made from (meth)acrylic ester and vinyl ester of branched carboxylic acid
abstract PURPOSE: To improve, e.g. the stability of latex (the optical stability of film) by polymerizing methyl methacrylate, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, a vinyl ester of Versatin-9 acid, and a stabilizing monomer at a specified ratio. n CONSTITUTION: Methyl methacrylate (a) is blended and polymerized with 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (b), a mixture (c) of a vinyl ester (i) of Versatin-9 acid (a registered trademark) whose acid component comprises a 9C tertiary aliphatic carboxylic acid, and if necessary, a small amount of a vinyl ester (ii) of Versatin-10 acid whose acid component comprises a 10C tertiary aliphatic carboxylic acid, and 0.5-5 wt.% stabilizing monomer (d) selected from (meth)acrylic acid, (meth)acrylamide, etc., in such a manner as to satisfy the relations of formulas I, II and III [wherein Tg is a glass transition temperature of -10 to 50°C; WA is a water absorption value, with a maximum of 30% m/m; WS is a water spot value and at least 7 after 24 hr; X 1 , X 2 and X 3 respectively are the wt.% of components (a), (b) and (c), and they are each 5 to 95 wt.% based on the total of these components; and a 1 to a 7 , and b 1 to b 7 are determined depending on the concentrations of component (d) and a surface active agent] and that each of these formulas will show a composition having an equal performance outline in a triangular diagram. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO
