titleOfInvention Production of coarse granular ammonium sulfate
abstract PURPOSE: To enable ready production of the subject coarse granular crystalline ammonium sulfate having a uniform granular size and suitable for bulk blend fertilizers by supplying an ammonium sulfate solution to an ammonium sulfate crystallization can, carrying out evaporation-concentration so that the slurry concentration of the solution in the can may not exceed the supersaturation solubility curve and repeating the cyclecontrolling operations. n CONSTITUTION: In supplying an ammonium sulfate solution as a by-product in production of lactam to an ammonium sulfate crystallization can and carrying out concentration for separating out and recovering ammonium sulfate crystals, evaporation-concentration is carried out so that the slurry concentration of the solution in the can may not exceed the supersaturation solubility curve. By keeping the solution in the can in a state where the amount thereof extracted is lowered while preventing generation of excess crystalline nuclei, the residence time of the ammonium sulfate crystals in the crystallization can is prolonged so as to grow fine particle ammonium sulfate crystals to a limit. The amount of the solution in the can extracted is then increased to reduce the amount of the crystals held in the can and the resultant state is kept till a limit where the ammonium sulfate crystals remaining in the can can cancel the supersaturation. The amount of the solution in the can extracted is subsequently reduced so as to grow the next fine particle ammonium sulfate crystals. By repeating the above mentioned processes, the objective coarse granular ammonium sulfate crystals having a uniform granular size of about 2-5mm. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio
