titleOfInvention Synthesis of cyanine dye
abstract PURPOSE: To prevent a cyanine dye having a plurality of acid groups and being useful as a light-absorbing dye from being decomposed in the purification step during its synthesis by purifying the cyanine dye with an alkali (alkaline earth) metal halide. n CONSTITUTION: A cyanine dye having at least two acid groups is purified with an alkali or alkaline earth metal halide in the synthesis of the dye. Examples of the alkali or alkaline earth metal halides include NaCl, NaBr, KCl, KBr, LiCl, MgCl 2 , CaCl 2 and BaCl 2 , among which NaCl is particularly desirable. A particularly desirable cyanine dye is a compound of the formula (wherein R 1 to R 6 are each an alkyl; Z 1 and Z 2 are each a nonmetallic atom group necessary for forming the pyridine ring; L is a methyl; X - is an anion; m is 1-5; and n is 1-2 and is 1 when the dye forms an inner salt. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio
