abstract PURPOSE:To give an excellent adhering property to polynorbornene resin and manufacture readily a integrated composite material through an RIM method by previously coating at least the surface of a material which contacts with reaction liquid with polymer not interrupting ring-opening polymerization in a method of manufacturing a composite material in effecting bulk ring-opening polymerization in a mold. CONSTITUTION:A material coated with polymer not interrupting ring-opening polymerization in the surface of a material which is placed during the period of ring-opening polymerization is put within a mold beforehand usually and reaction liquid is supplied into the mold and then bulk ring opening polymerization is conducted under conditions. Depending upon the configuration and size of the coated material, it is injected into the mold after applying and mixing in the liquid containing norbornane monomer and metathesis catalyst. The molding of polybnorbornene resin is in that the reaction liquid is supplied into the mold and cured (bulk ring-opening polymerization) by a conventional RIM method. As for the supplying method, two kinds or more of reacting liquid are mixed instantaneously by means of the mixing head of an RIM machine and in subsequence injected into a molding mold heated at high temperature, or in the case of the reacting liquid having a long pot life, it is injected or charged once or more times into a preheated mold.
