abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a resin having a high refractive index and a low dispersion, being odorless and improved in transparency, weathering resistance, etc., by polymerizing a thiocarboxylic ester monomer having a (meth)acryloylthio group in the presence of an isocyanate compound. n CONSTITUTION: A thiocarboxylic ester monomer (a) having at least one (meth) acryloylthio group in the molecule, which is desirably a compound of formula I or II [wherein R 1 is H or CH 3 ; R 2 and R 3 are each H or an alkyl; R 4 is H, an (un)substituted alkyl, an (un)substituted aryl or an (un)substituted aralkyl; m ≥0; A is any one of formulas III-VII; X is 0 or S; and n 1 to n 3 are each ≥0], e.g. methyl thioacrylate, is reacted at 0-100°C for 10min to 48hr in the presence of 0.0001-1 pt.wt., per 100 pts.wt. component (a), isocyanate compound (b) having at least one NCO group in the molecule (e.g. 2-isocyanatoethyl methacrylate), and the product is polymerized in the presence of optionally component (b). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio
