abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain a hypotensive agent, containing a peptide fraction extracted from a sardine as an active ingredient, suppliable in a large amount at a low cost with high safety and utilizable also as foods. n CONSTITUTION: The objective substance obtained by extracting a sardine muscle with water, fractionating the resultant extract with a 70-100% saturated ammonium sulfate, hydrolyzing the prepared fraction with a protease (e.g. pepsin) at 37-45°C and pH2-3, providing a peptide fraction having 150-5000 molecular weight, subsequently, as necessary, subjecting the aforementioned fraction to gel filtration, affording a peptide fraction having 200-2000 molecular weight, then suitably blending the above-mentioned peptide fraction as an active ingredient with a normally used carrier, base and excipient and preparing a pharmaceutical according to a conventional method. The above-mentioned agent is preferably prepared in the form of oral administration, such as capsule, table, powder or granule.
