titleOfInvention Beta-lactone derivative and remedy for hyperchole-steremia containing the same
abstract NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula l (R is H, lower alkyl, aryl, etc.; X is alkyl, aryl, alkylene, etc.; A is aryl, heterocyclic residue or alicyclic residue; etc.) or its salt. n EXAMPLE: E-3-hydroxy-5-(7-methoxycarbonylnaphthalen-1-yl)-2- trityloxymethylpentanoic acid 1,3-lactone. n USE: A remedy for hypercholesteremia. It exhibits excellent effect to inhibit the synthetase of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A. n PREPARATION: The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting a compound of formula II in a solvent (e.g. methanol) in hydrogen atmosphere in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. Pd black) and reacting the resultant compound of formula III with an acid chloride (e.g. benzenesulfonyl chloride) in pyridine at or below the room temperature. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio
