abstract NEW MATERIAL:The hydrolyzed keratin having an average molecular weight of 200-3,000, containing cysteine in an amount accounting for 5-18mol% of the total amino acids and produced by the electrolytic reduction of a hydrolyzed keratin having an average molecular weight of 300-5,000 and containing cysteine in an amount accounting for 5-18mol% of the total amino acids. n USE: A base for cosmetics. n PREPARATION: A hydrolyzed keratin having an average molecular weight of 270 and containing cysteine in an amount accounting for 8.4mol% of the total amino acids can be produced e.g. by adding 35% hydrochloric acid to crushed wool, hydrolyzing the wool at 80°C for 18hr under stirring, filtering the reaction mixture, neutralizing the filtrate by the treatment with a weakly basic anion exchange resin to obtain a hydrolyzed keratin having an average molecular weight of 400 and containing cysteine in an amount accounting for 8.7mol% of the total amino acids, passing the hydrolyzed keratin through an electrolytic reduction apparatus and carrying out the electrolytic reduction for 10hr with an electrical current of 2A. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio
