abstract | NEW MATERIAL:A benzoic acid derivative expressed by formula I (R 1 is 1-4C alkyl). n EXAMPLE: 2-(2'-Hydroxy-4-N-isobutyl-2"-methoxyethylaminobenzoyl)benzoic acid. n USE: A raw material for producing fluoran compounds useful as a recording material. For example, if a compound expressed by formula II is used in a pressure-sensitive copying sheet, solubility thereof in capsule oil is extremely high. If the aforementioned compound is used in a heat-sensitive recording material, paper having a high whiteness degree without any ground fouling is obtained. n PREPARATION: A 3-aminophenol derivative expressed by formula II (R 2 is R 1 ) is reacted with phthalic anhydride without or in a solvent, such as xylene, at 60-140°C for several to tens of hr by, as necessary, adding a Lewis acid, such as XnCl 2 , to afford the compound expressed by formula I. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio |
