PURPOSE: To obtain a drug composition for external use, containing diclofenac or a salt thereof and nonionic surfactant having a specific HLB value, useful as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic agent, etc., and improved in percutaneous absorbability. n CONSTITUTION: A composition for external use containing diclofenac or a salt thereof (e.g. a salt with Na, K or Ca) and a nonionic surfactant (e.g. sorbitan monostearate or glycerol monostearate) having ≤14.5 HLB value. A base normally used as a gel base is employed as a base of the aforementioned drug for external use and normally composed of, e.g. a gelling agent and further water, a lower alcohol, a neutralizing agent and a cosolvent.
