titleOfInvention Low odor polyphenylene ether
abstract PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain a low odor polyphenylene ether suitable for a food container by dissolving a polymerization grade phenolic monomer in a solvent and cooling the, resulting soln. to crystallize the phenolic monomer from the solvent to separate the same. n CONSTITUTION: A polymarization grade phenolic monomer (e.g; polymerization grade 2,6-xylenol) (A) obtained by vapor phase ortho-alkylation of phenols composed of alcohols is dissolved in a solvent (e.g; n-hexane) (B). This soln. is cooled to crystallize and separate the phenolic monomer from the solvent. A manganese chelate complex (C) is added to this phenolic monomer and the whole is brought into contact with oxygen in the absence of amine to obtain the objective polyphenylene ether. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO
