abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the subject oral delivery system by providing an individual inner layer comprising a water-soluble coating film on a tablet core containing a metoprolol salt and providing a semi-permeable external layer surrounding the inner layer and adhesively bonded to an attached material. n CONSTITUTION: This oral delivery system comprises (A) a tablet core containing 5-20% tablet binder (e.g. poly-N-vinylpyrrolidone), 1-5% tablet lubricant (e.g. magnesium stearate), 0-75% osmotically active transferring agent (e.g. sugar alcohol) and the balance properly water-soluble metoprolol salt, preferably metoprolol fumarate, (B) individual internal layer of water-soluble and uniform coating in an amount of 0.3-10%, preferably 0.2-5% and (C) individual semi-permeable external layer surrounding the component B and bonded to an attached material, being impermeable to metoprolol and permeable to gastrointestinal juice and (D) one passageway through the layers B and C in communication with the component A and the external environment. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO
