titleOfInvention Biotin ester and skin ointment and hair tonic using the ester
abstract NEW MATERIAL:A biotin ester of the formula (R is 5-20C straight chain saturated or unsaturated alcohol, 5-24C branched alcohol, 5-30C alicyclic alcohol, pyridinemethanol or the alcohol residue of dl-alpha-tocophenol). EXAMPLE:Biotin n-octyl ester. USE:Useful an active integrated for skin external agents preventing and improving skin irritations for hair tonics used for preventing and treating alopecia. Biotin accelerates the synthesis of fatty acids and cholesterol in living bodies and exhibits various useful physiological functions such as the growth acceleration of hair, the dissolution of the compound of formula I in water, oil, etc., is bad. The compound of the formula improves the solubility thereof without damaging the pharmacological action thereof. PREPARATION:For example, biotin is esterified in the presence of a catalyst in a non-reactive solvent such as benzene while azeotropically removing the by-produced water, thereby providing the compound of formula I.
