abstract PURPOSE: To make it possible to prepare the title resin with a high degree of polymn. in a short time by reacting a dihydric phenol with a methylene dihalide in a solvent in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide and water. n CONSTITUTION: A dihydric phenol of formula HO-Ar-OH (wherein Ar in an arom. group) (e.g., 4,4'-dihydroxytetraphenylmethane) is reacted with a methylene dihalide (e.g., methylene chloride) in a solvent (e.g., dimethylimidazolidinone) in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide (e.g., NaOH) and water.
