abstract | PURPOSE: To efficiently separate the title both isomers by mixing a solid mixture of both isomers with methanol under a specific condition so that an ether phase and a methanol phase become separate liquid phases to cool the mixture to specific temp. to crystallize one isomer. n CONSTITUTION: A solid mixture of 3,3',4,4'-tetramethyldiphenyl ether (A) and 2,3,3',4'-tetradiphenyl ether (B) is heated to about 38-48°C to be melted and the obtained liquid soln. is mixed with about 0.1-2 pts.wt. of methanol per one pts.wt. of the soln. at the same temp. or the solid mixture is mixed with methanol in the above mentioned ratio to be heated to the above mentioned temp. to be melted and an ether phase and a methanol phase are allowed to be present as two separate liquid phases. Next, these liquid phases are cooled to about 10-25°C while mixed to crystallize the component A and the liquid phase is separated from the solid phase to efficiently separate components A and B from the solid mixture. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO |
