abstract PURPOSE: To destroy weeds by applying 3-(1-amino)ethylidene-5-methylfuran-2,4- dione to soil before or after planting or sowing crops. n CONSTITUTION: Weeds are destroyed by applying racemic 3-(1-amino) ethylidene-5-methylfuran-2,4-dione of the formula or S- or R-enantiomer to soil before or after planting or sowing crop. A furandione of the formula in the ratio of 1-5kg/ha is applied to soil after or sowing rapeseed as a preferable example. In order to facilitate application, preservation, transportation, handling, etc., of the furandione as an active substance, it can be used in combination with a carrier (e.g. clay, diatomaceous earth, talc, synthetic resin or wax).
