titleOfInvention | Production of pitch based carbon fiber |
abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain a pitch-based carbon fiber having high elongation and strength and excellent reappearance of physical properties by subjecting a melt- spun pitch fiber to ozone treatment, infusibilizing the treated fiber in the presence of iodine and then subjecting the infusibilized fiber to burning treatment in an inert atmosphere. n CONSTITUTION: A pitch for spinning yarn such as coal tar pitch is melt spun to form a pitch fiber and then the pitch fiber is subjected to ozone treatment by retaining the pitch fiber in a gas mixture of ozone and oxygen or ozone and air and the ozone-treated pitch fiber is heated in the presence of iodine to infusibilize the pitch fiber and further, burned under an inert atmosphere such as nitrogen gas at ≥1000°C to carbonize the fiber and as necessary subjected to graphitization treatment to provide the aimed carbon fiber. Furthermore, the above-mentioned infusibilization treatment is carried out by adding ≥1.0wt.% iodine to the fiber after the above-mentioned ozone treatment and further heating the fiber in air at ≤350°C. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio |
