abstract | NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by the formula (R-CO- is acyl). n EXAMPLE: N-Palmitoyl-γ-aminobutyric acid. n USE: Capable of efficiently transporting γ-aminobutyric acid slightly to be passed through blood-brain barrier to cerebral tissue and being expected to promote acetylcholine metabolism of γ-aminobutyric acid, to improve glucose using ability and to have activating effects on cerebral functions. Improving action of γ-aminobutyric acid on hypertension and on subjective symptom followed by hypertension is expected to rise by introducing a highly unsaturated fatty acid of ω-3 base into acyl group to be introduced into γ-aminobutyric acid. n PREPARATION: 1mol fatty acid is dissolved in anhydrous tetrahydrofuran, a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound such as imidazole or carbonyldi- imidazole is added as a basic catalyst and γ-aminobutyric acid is added and the reaction is carried out to give a compound shown by the formula.
