abstract | PURPOSE: To improve the flame retardancy and workability of polyphenylene ether resin, by adding an effective quantity of specific polyester halide, to polyphenylene ether resin. n CONSTITUTION: Polyester halide of the quantity effective for increasing the flame retardancy of polyphenylene ether resin (PPO), is blended in PPO. As the polyester, a reaction product of a hydroxy compound selected from a hydroxy compound including at least two hydroxyl groups and epoxide, and phthalic acid halide or phthalic acid halide anhydride, is used. In the polyester, halogen is chlorine or bromine, a content of bonding halogen is at least about 25wt.%, and particularly at least about 35wt.% of bonding bromine is contained.
