titleOfInvention Production of water-absorbing resin
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the title resin in a short time without using a specific device, solvent, etc., by polymerizing a solution consisting essentially of a water-soluble ethylenic unsaturated monomer in steam or in a mixed gas phase of steam and inert gas. n CONSTITUTION: A solution consisting essentially of a water-soluble ethylenic unsaturated monomer [preferably acrylic acid (salt)] is fed to steam or a gas phase of mixture of steam and a gas (preferably air, etc.) inert to polymerization and polymerized in the gas phase preferably at 105-230°C. The concentration of the water-soluble ethylenic unsaturated monomer in the solution is preferably 25-70wt.%. Spray feeding by spray is preferable as the method of supplying the solution to the gas phase in a polymerizer from a view point of uniform dispersion. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio
