titleOfInvention Production of 4-chloro-2,5-dimethoxyaniline
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain an compd. of high purity useful as a synthetic intermediate of a dye or pigment in high yield by a simple method catalytically reducing 4-chloro-2,5-dimethoxynitrobenzene by hydrogen under a specific condition. n CONSTITUTION: 4-Chloro-2,5-dimethoxynitrobenzene is catalytically reduced by hydrogen at 80-110°C under atmospheric gauge pressure of 5-50 in an aromatic solvent such as xylene in the presence of a modified platinum-on-carbon catalyst. Pref., 0.01-0.02 mol. of a compd. (e.g.; disodium hydrogenphosphate) imparting pH 8-10 is used and 0.1-1.0 wt.% of aliphatic open chain primary, secondary, tertiary or cyclic amines are used to 4-chloro-2,5- diemthoxynitrobenzene being a starting substance to perform reduction to obtain the objective compd. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO
