abstract PURPOSE:To accurately detect the concentration of developer by coating the surface of a detection window on a side where it comes in contact with the developer with light transmissive synthetic resin whose mold releasability is high and which has electrostatic charging characteristic in the same polarity as toner and making the toner in the developer contain specified processing dye. CONSTITUTION:The developer 252 consisting of the mixture of the toner having negative electrostatic charging characteristic and carrier having positive electrostatic charging characteristic is stored in a developing sleeve 251 and a developing device 25. The substrate of the detection window 33 is constituted of glass 332 and a vapor-deposited film 331 which is a dichroic mirror is applied to the outer side of the window, then the light transmissive synthetic resin sheet 333 whose mold releasability is high and which has the electrostatic charging characteristic in the same polarity as the toner is stuck to the surface of the window on the side where it comes in contact with the developer 252. Then, at least, styrene-based resin, phenol resin, quinacridone-based pigment and xanthene-based dye are contained in the toner in the developer. Thus, the concentration of the developer is accurately detected.
