titleOfInvention Production of tetrafluorophthalic anhydride and its derivative
abstract PURPOSE: To easily dehydrate tetrafluorophthalic acid to form tetrafluorophthalic anhydride simply by heating the acid in a specific solvent and to obtain various derivatives useful as intermediate raw materials for pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, photo-sensitive materials, etc., by using the anhydride as a starting raw material. n CONSTITUTION: Tetrafluorophthalic acid of formula I is heated in an organic solvent inert to the compound of formula I and tetrafluorophthalic anhydride to obtain tetrafluorophthalic anhydride of formula II. The anhydride is made to react with NH 3 and then with an alkaline substance to obtain a 2- carbamoyl-3,4,5,6-tetrafluorobenzoic acid salt of formula III which is a new compound. A tetrafluoroanthranylic acid salt of formula N can be easily produced by the Hofmann rearrangement reaction of the compound of formula III with a hypohalous acid salt and an alkaline substance. The compound of formula IV can be easily decarbonated by heating in a solvent to form 2,3,4,5- tetrafluoroaniline of formula VI in high yield. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio
