abstract PURPOSE:To obtain the emulsifier for production of high-strength microcapsules by using a ternary copolymer consisting of benzyl (meth)acrylate, styrene and maleic anhydride. CONSTITUTION:The ternary copolymer consisting of the benzyl (meth)acrylate, the styrene and the maleic anhydride is used as the emulsifier for production of the microcapsules contg. a water-soluble high-polymer material as effective components. The content of the benzyl (meth)acrylate per 100mol% monomer compsn. of this ternary copolymer is specified to 0.1 to 2mol%, the styrene to 48 to 59.9mol% and the maleic anhydride to 40 to 50mol%. A microcapsule slurry of a high solid content concn. and low viscosity is obtd. if this copolymer is used and an in-site method is adopted. The high strength microcapsules are thus obtd in a small consumption amount.
