abstract |
PURPOSE: To obtain a (di)carboxylic acid substance substd. with long-chain hydrocarbyl in high yield by bringing a polyolefin and an ethylenically unsatd. monomer into contact with chlorine under specific conditions. n CONSTITUTION: (A) a polyolefin of at least 1,200 in no.-average mol.wt. and (B) an ethylenically unsatd. monomer or a dicarboxylic acid substance are mixed in an amt. of at least 0.5 mol per mol of the component with chlorine in a reaction zone under such conditions as to provide a total mixing energy of 1.1 HP/1000 l (4 HP/1000 gal.) to effect contact of both, whereby a desired mane- or di-carboxylic acid substance substd. with long-chain hydrocarbyl is obtd. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO |
