titleOfInvention | Nitrogen characteristics detector |
abstract | PURPOSE: To detect nitrogen in a sample liquid by heating a sample flow sampled from a gas chromatography column continuously. n CONSTITUTION: An oxygen thermal decomposition unit 10 heats a sample flow sampled at the outlet 130 of a gas chromatography column continuously under presence of oxygen. A photoion detector 200 comprising two main elements, i.e., a photon source 220 and a photoion cell 230, is disposed in the downstream of the oxygen thermal decomposition unit 10 and causes the sample flow to collide against photons having energy lower than a selected limit level. More specifically, photons entering into the photoion cell 230 collide against sample substance entering through an inlet 210 into the cell and ionize the sample substance having ionization potential of 10.6eV or below selectively. A potentiometer measures variation of a current in the cell 230 corresponding to the presence of ionized substance thus detecting presence of nitrogen in the sample flow. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO |
