PURPOSE: To obtain the subject preventive and treating agent, containing a specific β,γ-dihydropolyprenyl alcohol derivative and having action of normalizing human and animal immunological function and enhancing infection resistance. n CONSTITUTION: A preventive and treating agent containing a compound expressed by the formula (n is 5-7: R is H, 1-6C alkyl, acetyl or benzoyl), e.g., 3,7,11,15,19,23,27,31-octamethyl-6,10,14,18,22,26,30-dotriacontaheptan-1-ol, as an active ingredient. The above-mentioned composition is effective against rheumarthritis, autoimmune disease, cancer, asthma and various infectious diseases for humans and porcine, bovine diarrhea, porcine, avian, bovine pneumonia, etc., for animals.
