PURPOSE: To obtain a synergistic composition for treating periodontal disease comprising an antioxidant and an arylpropionic non-steroidal antiinflammatory drug, capable of inhibiting the formation of prostaglandin and preventing and obstructing tissue-destruction in periodontal disease. n CONSTITUTION: This synergistic composition for treating periodontal disease includes (A) an antioxidant, e.g. α-tocopherol, ascorbic acid or its hydrochloride, and precursors thereof containing vitamin A or α-carotene, (B) an arylpropionic non-steroidal antiinflammatory drug, e.g. ibuprofen, ketoprofen, flurbiprofen and naproxen, in proportions of 0.01-10wt.%, preferably 0.03-2.0wt.% component A and 0.01-10wt.%, preferably 0.01-2wt.% component B. The composition is preferably formulated with a polymer having adherence to the mucosa (e.g. karaya gum, CMC-Na or a copolymer composed of a lower alkyl vinyl ether and maleic anhydride) and directly administrated to the gingival tissue. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO |
