abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain a cationic emulsion improved in stability and cationicity by subjecting a dialkylaminoalkylacrylamide monomer having an amino group as a side chain quaternized by neutralization with an acid and a vinyl monomer to emulsion polymerization. n CONSTITUTION: A dialkylaminoalkylacrylamide monomer (A) of the formula (wherein R 1 is H or CH 3 ; R 2-3 are each a 1-4C alkyl; and n is 2-5), e.g. dimethylaminopropylacrylamide, is neutralized with an acid (B) (e.g. hydrochloric acid) to quaternize the amino group as a side chain, and the quaternized amide and a vinyl monomer (C) selected from styrene and a (meth)acrylate are subjected to emulsion polymerization at 30-100°C in water in the presence of a polymerization initiator and optionally a surfactant to obtain the title emulsion having a zeta potential ≥45mV and being an aqueous emulsion of a copolymer which contains 2-75wt.% units of component A and 25-98wt.% units of component B and whose amino group as a side chain is quaternized. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio |
