titleOfInvention Production of maleimides containing pendant hydroxyl group
abstract PURPOSE: To easily product the subject compound useful as a raw material for polymers on an industrial scale by carrying out addition reaction of maleic anhydride and an amino alcohol, converting the addition product with acetic anhydride and subjecting the product to alcoholysis with excess alcohol. n CONSTITUTION: A maleic acid monoamide containing pendant hydroxyl group is produced by the addition reaction of maleic anhydride with an amino alcohol (e.g. ethanolamine, n-propanolamine or isopropanolamine). The monoamide is converted to maleimide having pendant acetate group with acetic anhydride. The objective maleimide having pendant hydroxyl group can be produced by the alcoholysis of the above product in the presence of excess alcohol (e.g. methanol, ethanol or propanol). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio
