abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain an aromatic polyester which can develop liquid crystal properties when molten and is improved in modulus, strengths, heat resistance, soldering resistance and moldability by constituting it from five specified kinds of structural units. n CONSTITUTION: 30-70mol% p-hydroxybenzoic acid (A) of formula I is reacted with 2-33mol% 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenyl (B) of formula II, 2-33mol% methylhydroquinone (C) of formula III, 7-33mol% terephthalic acid (D) of formula IV and 1-17mol % isophthalic acid (E) of formula V in the presence of an acid anhydride (F) at 100-400°C while component (F) and the acid formed therefrom are being distilled from the system to obtain the title polyester of a melt viscosity (at 320°C under a shear rate of 1000 sec -1 ) ≥10P and comprising 30-70mol% units of formula VI, 2-33mol% units of formula VII, 2-33mol% units of formula VIII, 7-33mol% units of formula IX and 1-17mol% units of formula X. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio |
