titleOfInvention Process for oxidizing olefin
abstract PURPOSE: To oxidize an olefin by reacting it with O 2 , CO 2 and water in the presence of a catalyst under specified conditions to easily obtain a high selectivity toward a corresponding glycol and to obtain a high yield thereof. n CONSTITUTION: An olefin such as propylene is oxidized by reacting it with molecular O 2 as the oxidizing agent, CO 2 and water in a solvent for CO 2 or methane pref. in the presence of a heterogeneous solid catalyst system comprising CaI 2 , CuI and Cu 2 O on MnO 2 carrier or CuI, Cu 2 O and NaMnO 4 on MgO carrier under supercritical conditions with respect to the solvent, i.e. at 70 to 400°C under a pressure of above 75 atm, pref. 100 to 500 atm to obtain the intended compound such as propylene glycol. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO
