abstract PURPOSE: To provide the subject composition having excellent water resistance and heat resistance, rich antibacterial and deodoring properties, etc., comprising a specific organoalkoxysilane, a hydrophilic organosilane, water, zeolite and a salt of silver, copper or zinc in specified amounts, respectively. n CONSTITUTION: An antibacterial coating composition comprises (a) 100 pts.wt. (converted into an organoalkoxysilane) of a compound of formula: RSi(OR') 3 (R is 1-8C organic group; R' is 1-5C alkyl or 1-4C acyl), especially methyltrimethoxysilane, hydrolysate thereof and/or a partial condensate thereof, (b) 15-300 pts.wt. of a hydrophilic organic solvent (preferably isopropyl alcohol), (c) 25-250 pts.wt. of water, (d) 4-250 pts.wt. of zeolite and (e) 0.5-40 pts.wt. of one kind or more selected from the salts of silver, copper and zinc. The composi tion is coated on the surface of a metal substrate such as steel, glass, ceramics or aluminum or an organic substrate such as web to form a coating film having excellent antibacterial and deodorizing properties. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio
